Muslims have two big celebrations every year. They are Eid al-Fitr and
Eid al-Adha. At the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, Muslims around the
world celebrate Eid al-Fitr in different ways according to their own habits.
Religious Eid is a day when Muslims are not permitted to fast. Eid
al-Fitr Day falls on the first day of the lunar month based on observations of
the new moon by the local religious authorities. So, the exact day of Eid
al-Fitr varies from country to country. However, in most countries, it is
generally celebrated on the same day as in Saudi Arabia.
In Indonesia, people greet each other by saying 'selamat idul fitri',
which means 'happy Eid Al-Fitr'. Muslims also greet each other by saying
'apologize physically and mentally', which literally means 'please forgive my
body (outwardly) and soul (in the heart)'.
During Eid al-Fitr, younger family members will go to family members or
relatives to congratulate Eid al-Fitr, and also ask for forgiveness. This is a
very pleasant day for children because adults give them money in colorful
envelopes. Also, everyone can wear their latest or best clothes.
