Don't take it for granted. Take these easy steps to maintain the health
of your partner's eyes.
1. Eat well.
To keep your eyes healthy start by eating foods that contain lots of
vitamin A such as carrots.
2. Stop Smoking
This makes you more likely to get cataracts, optic nerve damage, and macular
degeneration, among many other medical problems. If you've tried stopping the
habit before starting again, keep doing it. The more often you try to stop, the
more likely you are to succeed. Ask your doctor for help.
3. Wear Sunglasses
A pair of the right colors will help protect your eyes from the sun's
ultraviolet (UV) rays. Too much exposure to UV light increases the likelihood
of cataracts and macular degeneration.
4. Use Safety Glasses
If you use hazardous materials or air at work or at home, wear safety
glasses or protective glasses. Sports such as ice hockey, racket balls, and
lacrosse can also cause eye injuries. Wear eye protection. A helmet with a
protective face mask or sports goggles with a polycarbonate lens will protect
your eyes.
5. Turn away from the Computer Screen
Staring at a computer screen or phone for too long can cause your eyes to
hurt. That way take 5-10 minutes to rest your eyes from the presence of a
computer or cellphone.
6. Visit Your Eye Doctor Regularly
Everyone needs regular eye examinations, even small children. This helps
protect your vision and allows you to see the best. Eye examination can also
find diseases, such as glaucoma, that have no symptoms. It is important to find
them early, when they are easier to care for.
