Malang City is a city located in East Java Province, Indonesia and is the
largest city in East Java after Surabaya. The city was founded in the Kingdom
of Kanjuruhan and is located on a plateau of 145.28km along with Batu City and
Malang Regency. Malang City is part of a unitary area known as Malang Raya.
Malang City is well known for being labeled as an education city. The
city has the best universities such as Brawijaya University and Malang State
University. Besides that, this city is a tourism city because of its charming
nature surrounded by mountains and cool air. Malang is also known as a city of
flowers because of the many flowers that adorn the city. The city of Malang is
also a city of art because of the many distinctive arts of this city, from
dances to performances. Malang City has a variety of people from various ethnic
groups and cultures. The population of Malang city reached 895,387 people with
the majority Javanese tribe, followed by Madura. Malang metropolitan area,
Malang Raya, is the second largest metropolitan area in East Java after
Gerbangkertosusila. If viewed from the cultural side, Malang City is included
in the Arek Cultural Area.
Malang City keeps various historical relics. This city keeps relics of
the Kingdom of Kanjuruhan period to the Netherlands. Dutch heritage in general
in the form of ancient buildings such as the Kayutangan Church which has gothic
architecture. Malang also held various events to preserve its cultural
heritage, one of them is the Malang Tempo Doel Festival. Malang also has a lot
of historical heritage which has become a landmark like Tugu Malang (Round
Square).
Malang is known to have many rural and typical thematic villages. Among
them, the most famous is the Jodipan Tourism Village (Kampung Warna-Warni), the
first colorful village in Indonesia to become one of the favorite destinations
in Malang City. In addition, there is also Tridi Village located opposite the
Warna-Warni Village which is famous for mural works on its residential walls,
such as Haji Lane in Singapore. The two villages are connected by a glass
bridge. Both are the favorite selfie places for tourists. Besides that, there
is also a tourist village in Malang which is famous for its environmental
friendliness and greenery. Among them are Kampung Glintung Go Green (3G)
located in Purwantoro and Bamboo Mewek Village on Tunjungsekar. Environmental
friendliness in Kampung 3G can be seen from the full village by plants. The 3G
village is also the first water conservation village in Indonesia. Meanwhile,
Kampung Bamboo Mewek is considered environmentally friendly because it is full
of trees and bamboo and is a conservation village. As a cultured city, Malang
also has cultural villages. The Polowijen Cultural Village is one of them. This
village is considered a cultural village because it stores and displays various
cultural heritage sites: unfortunate masks, the tomb of Mbah Reni, the first
unfortunate mask maker, and Sumur Windu, the bathing place of Ken Dedes in
ancient times. The village also has a unique library located in the gazebo. In
addition to the village, there is also the Malangan Mask Village. As the name
implies, starting from the gate to the area, visitors will be welcomed by
hundreds of masks with various colors and various characters as in the banner stories.
